{"id":6226,"date":"2019-12-17T08:37:00","date_gmt":"2019-12-17T08:37:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.medisysdata.com\/?p=6226"},"modified":"2019-12-17T08:37:00","modified_gmt":"2019-12-17T08:37:00","slug":"get-ready-for-radiology-billing-changes-in-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.medisysdata.com\/blog\/get-ready-for-radiology-billing-changes-in-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Get Ready for Radiology Billing Changes in 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Centers for Medicare &amp; Medicaid Services (CMS)\nrecently published the final Medicare Physician Fee Schedule for 2020, drawing\npositive and negative reactions from various radiology groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The American College of Radiology, said it was \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.acr.org\/-\/media\/ACR\/NOINDEX\/Advocacy\/2020-MPFS-FR-Preliminary-Summary-Final.pdf?la=en\">disappointed<\/a>\u201d\nthat CMS chose to finalize plans to implement a upgraded coding structure for\noffice\/outpatient evaluation and management (E\/M) services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Boosting reimbursement for E\/M by about $5 billion would\nharm clinicians who do not often bill for such services, according to the ACR.\nThe price tag: around $450 million in one year, and about $5.6 billion over\nthe coming 10 years, according to an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiologybusiness.com\/topics\/policy\/american-college-radiology-cms-physician-fee-schedule\">ACR\nanalysis<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The biggest CPT changes for radiology in 2020\nfall under GI imaging and nuclear medicine modalities with several revisions\nfor clarity and consistency as well as some additions<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cms.gov\/Medicare\/Medicare-Fee-for-Service-Payment\/PhysicianFeeSched\/PFS-Federal-Regulation-Notices-Items\/CMS-1715-F\">CY 2020 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Final Rule<\/a> was\nplaced on display at the Federal Register on November 1, 2019. This final rule\nrevise payment policies, payment rates, and other provisions for services\nfurnished under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) on or after Jan. 1,\n2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many \u201cradiologic exam\u201d codes were revised,\nincluding&nbsp;<strong>74022, 74210, 74220, 74230, 74240, 74246,\n74250, 74270&nbsp;<\/strong>and<strong>&nbsp;74280<\/strong>. Codes&nbsp;<strong>74241, 74245, 74247, 74249&nbsp;<\/strong>and<strong>&nbsp;74260<\/strong>&nbsp;will be deleted. Updates also were\nmade to myocardial imaging. Codes&nbsp;<strong>78459, 78491&nbsp;<\/strong>and<strong>&nbsp;78492<\/strong>&nbsp;were revised. New codes include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CPT Code 78429<\/strong>: Myocardial\nimaging, positron emission tomography (PET), metabolic evaluation study\n(including ventricular wall motion(s), and\/or ejection fraction(s), when\nperformed) single study; with concurrently acquired computed tomography\ntransmission scan<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Code 78430:<\/strong>&nbsp;Myocardial\nimaging, PET, perfusion study (including ventricular wall motion(s), and\/or\nejection fraction(s), when performed); single study, at rest or stress\n(exercise or pharmacologic), with concurrently acquired computed tomography\ntransmission scan<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CPT Code 78431:<\/strong>&nbsp;multiple studies at rest and\nstress (exercise or pharmacologic), with concurrently acquired computed tomography\ntransmission scan<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CPT Code 78432:<\/strong>&nbsp;Myocardial imaging, positron\nemission tomography, combined perfusion with metabolic evaluation study\n(including ventricular wall motion(s), and\/or ejection fraction(s), when\nperformed), dual radiotracer (eg, myocardial viability)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CPT Code 78433:<\/strong>&nbsp;with concurrently acquired computed tomography transmission scan<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About Medisys<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We are a group of medical billing experts who offer comprehensive billing and coding services to doctors, physicians &amp; hospitals.
