Ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) have demonstrated an ability to control costs and save money with improved quality and customer services. ASC’s provide a lower-cost site of care as compared to hospital outpatient departments (HOPDs<\/a>). There has been a reduction of more than $38 billion per year in the cost of outpatient surgery. Below are a few reasons why the cost is reduced has been seen in Ambulatory surgery centers:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Same-day surgery options:<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Providing same-day surgery options to patients for many common medical treatments like cataract surgeries or colonoscopies is the main reason behind the decreased cost.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

More efficient due to a limited scope of procedures:<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

About 65 percent of Medicare-licensed ambulatory surgery centers are physician-owned and function as small businesses, meaning that they have less to bargain with when it comes to payer contracts. Nowadays many ASC\u2019s are using Inventory Management related software which enables ASCs to closely monitor supply levels. They help in keeping inventory low so that unused supplies won\u2019t be sitting on stockroom shelves.
